what would the future look like with a funded rail?

Jobs would be created up and down the island!

Jobs would be created up and down the island!

Jobs would be created up and down the island!

As the project progressed

2200 jobs would be created

and those would soon turn into long term full time jobs making on average $67,000 per year.

Replacing Tracks with Network Rail - YouTube

Tracks get renewed

Jobs would be created up and down the island!

Jobs would be created up and down the island!

From 45km per hour to 80km per hour

Using incredible trains that are only a barge away, most of the 289km of track can be renewed at a very well known cost

Here's a few of these modern machines

Passenger service would be created between Victoria and Langford

Trains moving between Victoria and Langford station would kick off the viability of the rail line and could be completed within 2 months of funding.

BC Transit's intercity buses between Langford and Victoria could be used to augment other routes and stop at terminals timed with the Passenger Trains.

a $200 monthly pass would make the service useful especially as the track is repaired north of Langford.

Passenger service could leave from each major city based on demand

The number of trains, where and when they start,  and their car-count would adjust to accommodate demand and Freight and Passenger service could flow seamlessly using sidings.

Citizens that live in Nanaimo but work in Victoria or vice versa could take the train for $200 a month and at an average speed of 80km/hr, the trip from Courtenay to Victoria, and

Victoria to Courtenay,

would be

2 hours 40 minutes!

Those workers, and many others like them, would save fuel and maintenance costs of travelling these long routes every day, reducing congestion, emissions, and frustration.

Progressive employers today might even fund passes so they can be more nimble with their workforce!

Business case GOALS

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

A 10-year study of fatalities occurring in train, plane and automobile accidents concluded that the best way to be safe while traveling was to leave the family car at home:

the study

Provide improved access to specialized services, businesses, and entertainment options

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

Connecting communities up and down the island by rail while integrating the service with BC transit, cab companies, bike rental, or other transport means would greatly increase access for families needing to travel for work, medical appointments, events, or to visit family and friends up and down the island.

Enhance and accelerate the growth of Island economies

Provide a safe, efficient, reliable, and resilient transportation link between Island communities

Enhance and accelerate the growth of Island economies

Connecting our economic centres, port facilities,  airports and ferry terminals by rail will lower costs for shippers, and provide an environment where many Vancouver Islanders wouldn't need to use a personal vehicle for long distance commuting.

Promote environmental sustainability

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

Enhance and accelerate the growth of Island economies

Providing an intercity and commuter passenger  service that provides an alternative to reliance on a personal automobile and highway  transportation reduces emissions, displays nature for all its riders, and provides the opportunity for high-impact electrification!

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

A low cost monthly pass for an accessible, reliable, and safe transportation service up and down the island can bring piece of mind to those who would otherwise have to navigate trans-city links to visit hospitals, health centres, doctors, counselors, specialists, legal or other vital services needed for day to day life.

2200 Life-time Jobs!

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

Add service for disadvantaged members of communities

Following the initial upgrades and repairs the project is expected to create 2200 life-time career jobs paying roughly $67,000 / year on average. As a bonus, the work they do to support the line will allow them to live in lower cost areas of the island!
